Missing Child Hoax

Lately we have seen a rise in fake amber alerts, spam emails and missing children hoaxes. We thought we would add a collection of those here to help you quickly check if its a real case or not.

Its terribly sad that there are individuals out there who waste time and resources that could be used to search or pass on information about a real time by making up fake stories to spam people with.

Not only is this practice time wasting by those that receive the information and assume its genuine, but it can cause a damaging affect to families who are trying to get information out. The general public may also become immune to alerts if they are constantly flooded with missing children hoax alerts and email spam.

As with any chain mail or messages you receive we would always recommend you check them out before you pass on to your friends, this is the same advice should the contents be of a missing child case, a suspected virus, or any other "pass this on" type email you may receive.  Feel free to get in touch if we can help at all.

ashley flores missing

My boyfriend just received an text message about a 14 yr old by the name of Ashley Flores that has been missing for 2 weeks. I did not send this because I did not know where it came from. That is the question where did it come from? How did they get the number and why send it to him since he does not like receiving texts. My first thought was to go on line and look it up. Now Iam glad I did not send it. I makes me mad that people do things like this. It is not funny. I have a 14 and worry about things like this everyday. Iam not laughing like the people that sent it. Ashley Flores should be found so someone can knock some sense into her and her stupid friends. And her parents for letting this go on.

Hoax text message re-circulating

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) - State police are notifying the public that a hoax Amber Alert text message first reported in February is again circulating.

Several reports of the fake alert message were reported this week in Delta County.

The hoax Amber Alert message contains the following information: "A 3-year-old girl was taken by a man driving a newer silver truck. The license plate reads 72b381. Please pass on."

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has confirmed there are no current Amber Alert activations containing this information.

"Incomplete and hoax Amber Alert messages forwarded in this manner ultimately result in confusion and can hamper legitimate recovery efforts," State Police Sgt. Greg Jones, coordinator of the Michigan Amber Alert Plan, said in a statement. "To confirm the validity of an Amber Alert message, please contact your local law enforcement agency."

In Michigan, official Amber Alert activations are distributed by State police to media outlets and law enforcement partners in a specific area or region. The information is then distributed to the public with a request for their assistance in locating the endangered missing child.

Official Amber Alert activations always include detailed information concerning the missing child such as a full description, last known location and contact information for the investigating agency. When the child is recovered, State police distributes an official cancellation message to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and media outlets.
