My heart goes out!
After looking at the beautiful pictures of your little girl, I cried as though she was my own daughter. I have a 2 year old girl who looks so similar that it just tore me apart to hear the sad news of your loss. Words cannot describe the pain you must be going through and I pray that you find peace.
dedication
oh... and i have a homemade babybook that i have made for my 5 month old baby girl. I have dedicated a page for Aisling in it, photo's of her beautiful face and the tradgic loss. It is in rememberance to Aisling and a reminder of how special and precious our babies are to us all and how easily that can be destroyed.
Rest in Peace precious baby girl, you will always be remembered by us xxx.
the angel she is
Aisling Symes has touched a community, a city, a nation and many parts of the world! I have cried and cried for her and her family for days, my unhappiness for this poor wee girl and her family has caused a rift in my own family. I have mourned like she was my own,i just can't put her beautiful smiling face out of my head, it is soooo sad! Why children have to be taken away so young, it's just not fair, i cannot imagine what Alan and Angela have been through and have to go through, just unbearable, at least you have eachother and beautiful Caitlyn, hold on to that, you both look so in love and supportive as a family, Caitlyn will need that and Aisling will want that to last for ever too! i didn't have the pleasure of knowing Aisling but i love her dearly, precious baby, and my love goes to the family who has to deal with the tragic loss of her. Take care all of you xxx
I wish to offer my most
I wish to offer my most sincere and heart felt condolences to the family of Aisling Symes. The loss of a child is a pain that very few of us could bear.
May her sad, tragic death remind us of how precious life is and how easily it can be extinguished.
Doves released as Aisling Symes remembered
White doves have been released as the small white coffin of Aisling Symes was carried out of a West Auckland church by her parents.
Alan and Angela Symes sobbed as they carried the casket - along with six other family members - to a waiting white hearse outside the Ranui Baptist Church.
The coffin - draped with both Irish and New Zealand flags - was placed into the hearse amid massive crowds. Three white doves were released into the air at the completion of the service.
FAMILY FEELINGS
Aisling was remembered by her family as a "real gem of love".
The two-year-old's body was found in a stormwater drain on Monday, a week after she disappeared from the home of her late grandparents in Henderson. Aisling's disappearance and the hunt that followed gripped the nation.
Aisling's uncle David Barttle today said the family had been overwhelmed by an outpouring of love from the community.

Body believed to be missing toddler found in drain
Body believed to be missing toddler found in drain
Updated at 11:23pm on 12 October 2009
The body of a child believed to be Auckland toddler Aisling Symes has been found.
A spokesperson for the Symes family told Radio New Zealand late on Monday night police had informed them the body is that of the two-year-old girl who had been missing for a week.
Police and the Fire Service were called to a property in the western suburb of Henderson on Monday evening near where the girl was last seen.
The officer in charge of the inquiry, Inspector Gary Davey, said a child's body was found in a drain just before 8pm on Monday.
The body was at the back of a Longburn Road property, near the home of the girl's deceased grandparents.
Mr Davey said it is too early to say how the body got into the drain, or how long it had been there. The area is being treated as a crime scene.
Aisling Symes disappeared about 5.30pm last Monday, prompting an extensive search of the surrounding area, including waterways.
Police and the Fire Service had been working at the back of the Longburn Road property since Monday evening and a crowd of about 150 people had gathered to await the outcome.

Possible breakthrough in Aisling case
There is intense police activity tonight near the location where missing toddler Aisling Symes was last spotted a week ago.
Police have gathered in numbers at a private property on Pomaria Rd, around the corner from where Aisling was last seen, on Longburn Rd. Firefighters are also on the scene, with concrete cutters and a large circular saw.
There are reports of digging in bush near the back of the property, which backs onto the former home of her deceased grandparents. Police are searching a septic tank at the back of the property, and have covered the area with a tarpaulin.

Police search property in hunt for Aisling
A house in west Auckland's Pomaria Rd is under police guard this evening and a helicopter is hovering above the Henderson search location for missing the two-year-old. It is understood police are searching a septic tank at the back of a property and are digging around the back - near where Aisling went missing.
Today the head of the inquiry, Detective Inspector Gary Davey, said there had been no major breakthrough but had been getting a lot of information from the public. He said today he was still hopeful someone had abducted her and was looking after her but could not rule out other possibilities. Police had "nothing solid" in the search for Aisling and all they could do was follow the potential leads they had and "make sure we keep an open mind and follow each of those phases down to its conclusion", he said.
Aisling's father said the past week has been "one very long bad day". He said the family hopes that whoever has their daughter, is looking after her. He extended a plea to anyone with information about her disappearance to come forward. "She needs to be with her family."
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Inspector Davey, the father of two young children, appealed to anyone who knows what has happened to two-year-old Aisling to call him on a specially set-up telephone line – 0800 4 247 5464. His appeal is the latest move by police, who admit they have no leads or evidence as to where Aisling is or what may have happened to her.
A Facebook site set up by Symes family member Christina Bartle had more than 12,000 members last night. Mrs Bartle, whose husband is Aisling's cousin, said Aisling's parents had been overwhelmed by the messages of support. "They had a look at the Facebook site a few days ago when I was there with them and they were overwhelmed by the amount of people and comments of support that were there for them. I think Alan is still checking the group site most days," she said.
"It is an amazing family ... they are all very caring and look after each other."

$50,000 reward offered in Aisling Symes case
Police Commissioner Howard Broad says the British aristocrat, Lord Ashcroft, has offered a reward of $50,000 for information leading to the safe return of Aisling Symes.
The number of police now working on the disappearance of Aisling has increased to 70 and Inspector Gary Davey said police had received a lot of information on the case. "We are still appealing for anyone who has her to come forward. We just want her back."
He said today he was still hopeful someone had abducted the toddler and was looking after her but could not rule out other possibilities. "My own genuine hope or gut feeling is that somebody does have her and she is still alive,"."I believe that. I am optimistic, I believe family are and certainly the investigation team are optimistic that we can find Aisling." "While several people of interest have been profiled by the intelligence section and suspect team, we have not had any strong information that might lead us directly to Aisling," he said. He said police would continue profiling people of interest, and sorting information from the public. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
Yesterday, Mr Davey urged the person responsible either to contact him or drop Aisling at a hospital. "Whoever you are, you might be scared or intimidated by police activity over the past week. Don't be - call me. We just want to know where Aisling is," he said.
The last person to see Aisling was a 9-year-old child - who reported seeing an Asian woman with a dog approach the toddler near her late grandparents' Longburn Rd home just after 5pm last Monday. It is the strongest lead police have and they want to hear from anyone with information on the woman.
News of Aisling's disappearance is making headlines in father Alan Symes' native Ireland. Mrs Symes said Aisling had started learning the Irish counting system and loved potatoes. "She always used to get into the spuds and when she started teething we would find bite marks in the raw potatoes."

Resident praises thoroughness of police search for Aisling
Longburn Road resident, Warren Leigh, says police have extensively searched his home twice for Aisling Symes. More of these searches are continuing today, as police numbers have been bolstered to 70.
Mr Leigh says the searchers are quite invasive and full on, but it must be done.
"Went through every cupboard and wardrobe . . . and downstairs, the garage, right through there and the property several times - I've got the creek running through down the back."
Mr Leigh hopes she is found soon.

No clues a week after toddler disappears
A week after a 2-year-old Aisling Symes disappeared, police are convinced she was abducted but said Monday (12/10/09) that they had no clues as to her whereabouts or who took her.
Police now have 70 officers working on the disappearance of Aisling, who has not been seen since the afternoon of October 5. They admitted there were no signs of a breakthrough.
The case of Aisling Symes, daughter of Alan Symes and his wife Angela, has gripped New Zealand the way the disappearance of English toddler Madeleine McCann dominated headlines on the other side of the world two-and-a-half years ago.
Thousands of New Zealanders have joined a Facebook site set up by a member of the Symes family to express their sympathy and support.
Inspector Gary Davey, himself a father of two, has made a personal appeal to the kidnapper on Sunday, saying: "Whoever you are, you might be scared or intimidated by police activity over the past week. Don't be - call me. We just want to know where Aisling is."

Aisling's search team numbers boosted
The police team investigating the disappearance of Aisling Symes has been boosted to 70 officers.
Inspector Gary Davey says they are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. He says police have no new leads but are determined to find the missing girl.
Allan Symes, Aisling's father, says the past week has been "one very long bad day". He says the evenings and mornings are especially hard for the family and that he and Angela are exhausted. He says the family hopes that whoever has their daughter, is looking after her.
Mr Symes says his daughter needs to be back with her family and is appealing to anyone who may know where she is to contact the police.

Personal appeal from officer leading search for Aisling
The officer leading the investigation into the disappearance of two year old Aisling Symes, Inspector Gary Davey, made a personal appeal to whoever has her or who knows where she is, to contact him directly on 0800 42475 464.
"I'm personally appealing to whoever has Aisling or who knows what's happened to her, to call me," Mr Davey said.
"Whoever you are, you might be scared or intimidated by Police activity over the past week. Don't be - call me. We just want to know where Aisling is."
He said he was mindful of the fact schools reopen tomorrow and that there would be parents and caregivers who were more cautious about their childrens' safety in light of Aisling's disappearance.
"I encourage communities to take whatever safety precautions they feel appropriate with regard to young children, without becoming unduly fearful.
"Schools in the area will also be aware of the Police investigation and, I'm sure, will be providing pupils with safety advice and reassurance."

Moment is all it took for Aisling to vanish
Angela Symes turned her back for the slightest of moments – and her beloved little daughter was gone.
All she was doing was fiddling with a tap when two-year-old Aisling vanished. She said, "She was there, I turned it off, looked behind me again, and she was gone. It was that fast. I just can't believe it, but it was that fast."
Mrs Symes and her husband Alan appeared on television networks to make an impassioned plea for the return of their daughter, who went missing in the West Auckland suburb of Henderson on Monday night.
The pair said they kept asking themselves if they could have acted any differently on the night Aisling went missing.
Their other daughter, Caitlin, had been strong, but was getting more and more upset, asking: "Are we ever going to get Aisling back? "She'll be playing, then all of a sudden she'll go quiet and burst into tears. She's asking us questions like, `If she doesn't eat, she's going to die, isn't she?"' Mrs Symes said.
Mr Symes, a part-time securitry guard, is a native of Munster in Ireland, has lived in New Zealand for 20 years. Mrs Symes, a fulltime mum, has spent her life in West Auckland.

Madeliene McCann's parents offer their support
A New Zealand couple whose two-year-old daughter vanished this week have been offered support by the parents of Madeleine McCann.
Kate and Gerry McCann said their "thoughts and prayers" were with the family of Aisling Symes, who disappeared from an Auckland suburb on Monday evening.
Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, said in a statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Aisling and her family. We wish Aisling's parents the strength and support they will be needing at this most painful time, and we join them in hoping for Aisling's safe and speedy return.
"We urge anyone who has any information about Aisling to come forward to the local police as soon as possible and end this family's suffering."

Reward offered in Aisling Symes case
A West Auckland business owner is putting up a $3,000 incentive for information leading to missing two-year-old Aisling Symes.
Andy Holbrow says the case has affected him and his staff and he hopes the incentive of money will help in some way to get the little girl back home.
"We're actually quite surprised nobody else has come out and offered it and if there is anybody out there who wants to add to it, then definitely get in with us."
Mr Holbrow has not yet contacted police about the reward offer.

A safe and sound return is sought
Police investigating the disappearance of Aisling Symes are urging whoever has her to deliver her to a safe place, preferably any hospital in the Auckland region at any time.
"If anyone knows where she is or who she is with, they need to return her to where she belongs or they need to contact us on 0800 4 2475 464," Inspector Gary Davey said.
Police have not heard from the Asian woman who was seen with Aisling and are urging members of the public not to limit their understanding of what Asian is.
"There are several ethnicities encompassed in the generic descriptor 'Asian' - Korean, Thai, Japanese, Indian and several others - and we're very keen to hear from anyone who thinks they might know who this woman is," Mr Davey said.

Toddler may have been stolen to order
Aisling Symes's disappearance from her deceased grandparents' Longburn Rd home in Henderson has sparked one of the biggest police hunts for years. After three days of searching police have found no sign of the toddler.
Inspector Gary Davey said today it was looking increasingly likely she had been kidnapped. He could not rule out that she may have been stolen to order but that if she was taken to order it would be a very, very rare occurrence. Police don't have any evidence to suggest any scenario but some are more likely than others.
The mystery Asian woman seen with Aisling had still to be identified and there was still a possibility she had no idea of the search or the grief of the parents. If she was the kidnapper, all she had to do was return Aisling, said her distraught parents yesterday.
Police are considering boosting the number of searchers looking for Aisling.

Aisling search now treated as an abduction
Police have brought in more staff to work on what is now becoming a criminal investigation into the disappearance of Auckland toddler Aisling Symes.
Police say their search operation would have found the girl if she had simply wandered off, and there is only a slight chance she would have been washed away in a creek running behind the home Aisling was last seen at. A Search and Rescue specialist who has analysed the search plan says it was extensive and above and beyond what is required in a situation such as this.
In a press conference yesterday Alan Symes described the living hell he and his wife Angela have been going through.
“These recent days have proven to be the most harrowing of our lives, no sleep and we feel like we're barely existing. We're surviving every moment not knowing where Aisling is. Thoughts church through us as we huddle close as a family and we wait to find out if there's anything,” says Mr Symes.
Police have followed up on a number of sightings which have so far proved to be false alarms. An Asian woman seen walking on with Aisling on Longburn Rd about the time she went missing had still not come forward and that it was critical police spoke to her.

Opportunistic abduction likely scenario: police
Two-year-old Aisling Symes was most likely the victim of an opportunistic abduction, police say.
Three days after her disappearance from her late grandparents' vacant Henderson home, police have followed up several reported sightings of 2-year-old girls, but none has led to the missing toddler.
Her parents, Alan and Angela Symes, are beside themselves with grief and yesterday pleaded for her safe return.
They said they were not concerned about why or how she was taken and just wanted their daughter back.

Parents plead for Aisling's return
The distraught parents of Aisling Symes are pleading for her return, three days after she went missing. "These recent days have proven to be the most harrowing of our lives, no sleep and we feel like we're barely existing," says Alan Symes.
The major search has been scaled back as police take Operation Longburn from the streets to behind closed doors where a team of 40 investigators continue to profile people of concern. They are looking at not only "persons of interest" but also "behaviour of interest" in the last few weeks. Police have visited known sex offenders in the west Auckland suburb of Henderson. They are using local dog registration records to try and locate the Asian woman seen walking her dog near Aisling shortly before her disappearance. More sinister scenarios, like the possibility Aisling was hit by a car then picked up and driven away by a panicked driver, are alsobeing considered.
Police are also working closely with Waitakere Mayor Bob Harvey. He says he has been driving around the streets, talking to people who've been searching. He says local people have been disappointed as they thought the young girl would be found in 24 hours.

Speaking to the Herald this morning, mother Angela Symes cried as she said: "Just as long as they are looking after her."
