NSW Police Appeal for assistance to find missing mother
    Wednesday, 21 Jul 2010 02:58pm

Family members and Homicide Squad detectives will today appeal for the public’s help as fears increase for the well-being of a mother missing from Sydney’s west.

Kristi McDougall, 31, was last seen by friends on Park Road at Homebush about 1pm on Saturday 19 June. The mother-of-one, from Carlingford, told friends she was on her way to the Bankstown area; she has not been seen or heard from since.

Kristi was reported missing on Monday 21 June and her dark green Ford Falcon was found parked in a ‘No Stopping’ zone on Jackson Street at Ermington, near the intersection of Spurway Street, the following evening (Tuesday 22 June). This vehicle has been seized by police and is being scientifically examined.

Investigators have spoken with many of Kristi’s friends and associates in an effort to pinpoint her last movements. Her current whereabouts remain a mystery. One line of enquiry being investigated is the suggestion that Kristi was last headed for the Bankstown area when she disappeared.

Kristi’s father, Don McDougall, said while his grandson was being well cared for by family members, the toddler needed his mother. This little boy is heartbroken. He needs his mum and Kristi is not the kind of mother who would stay away from her son.

Strike Force Ashbridge was formed to investigate Kristi’s disappearance and comprises investigators from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, Rosehill Local Area Command and South West Metropolitan Region.

Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Peter Cotter, said concerns were held for Kristi’s safety as her disappearance was considered out of character.

Kristi McDougall is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 31 years of age, 162cm tall, weighing about 45kg, with a thin build, blue eyes and long brown hair. Police have been told Kristi was last seen wearing a bright pink hooded top, black track pants and white shoes.

Investigators are seeking witnesses who saw her driving her early-model dark green Ford Falcon station wagon with NSW registration AIK 64J. Investigators have spoken with many of Kristi’s friends during the past four weeks but she has not made contact with either family or friends and her current whereabouts are unknown.

People can call Crime Stoppers 24 hours a day, anonymously if necessary, to provide information. This information can be provided in the strictest of confidence.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Kristi McDougall should immediately contact detectives at Strike Force Ashbridge via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

    Mystery of missing Kristi McDougall

Police believe a man interviewed over the disappearance of young single mother Kristi McDougall has lied to them. Her disappearance was completely out of character, and she had been preparing for her son's birthday tomorrow, her father, Don, said yesterday.

Ms McDougall was last seen by friends at a unit on Park Road, Homebush, about 1pm on Saturday, June 19. She had dropped her son, Harry, at his paternal grandparents' home that morning. She said she was going to Bankstown and has not been seen since. While she did not say why she was going there, it is possible she might have gone to buy drugs. Her phone was, unusually, switched off by 3.15pm. She was reported missing two days later.

Ms McDougall had left Homebush in her dark green Ford Falcon (photo above) but did not tell her friends why she was heading to Bankstown nor whether she was meeting someone there. Her car was found two days later parked in a No Stopping zone at Jackson Street, Ermington

Fiends said she had battled with drugs and problems with a former boyfriend before the birth of her son. The father of the boy - who turns two on Thursday - is not a suspect in the case. Ms McDougall is understood to have been in a new relationship.

She is a devoted mother who lives for her son. She had already bought presents and decorations for his birthday on Thursday. Her family are adamant she would never voluntarily be away from her son for an extended period of time. Harry is now being cared for by his paternal grandparents.

Harry misses his mummy and when shown her photo, he points at her and and says, 'That's my mummy.'

    Little Harry's sad birthday

His mother Kristi McDougall disappeared more than a month ago and police now fear the worst may have happened to the 31-year-old Sydney woman.

Her devastated father Don yesterday fought back tears as he begged the public to help find his daughter, most importantly so little Harry could have his mother back - the best birthday present of all.

"We all miss Kristi, but this little boy is heartbroken. He needs his mum," Mr McDougall said.

More than a month on, with no sightings of the woman, homicide squad boss Detective Superintendent Peter Cotter said police were treating her disappearance in the "gravest of terms".

"Investigators have spoken with many of Kristi's friends during the past four weeks but she has not made contact with either family or friends," Supt Cotter said.

Mr McDougall said his daughter was an adoring mother to Harry and would not have strayed from her son by choice.

He said if it was the case that she was struggling with being a mother and needed a break, her family was there to help if she would just let them know she was OK.

"Just send us a signal ... and know that Harry is in the best possible hands and is being very well cared for," he said.

Asked if there was any reason someone might want to harm his daughter, Mr McDougall said not that he was aware of.

Ms McDougall was estranged from Harry's dad, but police said he was not a person of interest.

Anyone who knows her whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The devestated father of missing Kristi McDougall said he is resigned to the fact a torso discovered yesterday is his daughter.

Don McDougall bravely spoke of his pain when police told him the human remains found in a Doonside reserve were most likely Kristi's.

Although the torso has to undergo forensic examination to confirm the identity, police have told Mr McDougall they are confident it is Kristi.

"We are at a complete loss to explain any of this," Mr McDougall said.

Pair charged over death of Kristi McDougall

A man and a woman have been charged over the death of Kristi McDougall after a torso believed to be that of the Sydney mother was found in western Sydney bushland last week.

The arrests follow months of anguish for the 31-year-old’s family, who launched several public appeals seeking help to solve her disappearance.

Ms McDougall, mother to a two-year-old son, was last seen by friends in Park Road, Homebush, about 1pm on June 19 and was reported missing on June 21.

Her dark green Ford Falcon was found parked in a No Stopping zone in Jackson Street, Ermington, near the intersection of Spurway Street, the following evening.

Ms McDougall, of Carlingford, had said she was meeting someone at Blacktown, in Sydney's west. It is now believed she was using drugs.

A torso - believed to be Ms McDougall's - was found by a self-professed psychic in Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside last week after members of the public launched a search for missing Mt Druitt child Kiesha Abrahams.

Couple in court over murder of Kristi McDougall

A man and woman faced court yesterday over the murder of Kristi McDougall, the woman reported missing in Sydney’s northwest two months ago and whose body was accidentally discovered during a search for the missing Mount Druitt six-year-old, Kiesha Abrahams.

Kristi McDougall, 31, was last seen by friends in Park Rd, Homebush, about 1pm on June 19. The Carlingford mother had told friends she was on her way to the Bankstown area.

Ms McDougall was reported missing on June 21 and her dark green Ford Falcon was found parked in a No Stopping zone in Jackson St, at Ermington, near the intersection of Spurway St, the following day.

On August 11, a woman claiming to have psychic abilities and hoping to locate missing Mount Druitt girl Kiesha Abrahams pinpointed the area in which police found the torso of a woman.

The torso, missing the head, arms and legs, was wrapped in plastic and lying on the bank of a creek in Nurragingy Reserve, Knox Rd, at Doonside.

The body’s remains were idenified as Kristi McDougall.
On Wednesday, Debbra Hogden, 42, and Robert Best, 47, of Dundas, was arrested by detectives and taken to Parramatta police station. The man was charged with murder and the woman with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Ms Hogden appeared before Parramatta Local Court yesterday and was released on bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on October 14. Mr Best is due in the same court today.

Kristi McDougall 'killed over child access anger'

The mystery of the headless torso found in a western Sydney creekbed by a psychic has started to become clearer, with police charging a man and woman in relation to the killing.

Aboriginal elder Cheryl Anne Carroll stumbled over the body of single mother and drug dealer Kristi McDougall last week while searching for the child at the Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside.

In the wake of publicity about her finding, a 42-year-old Dundas woman, Debbra Hogden, fronted investigators and made a series of admissions.

According to the statement of facts tendered by police to Parramatta Local Court, she alleges her friend and neighbour Robert Best murdered McDougall at his home on June 19. McDougall had gone to his unit to deliver crystal methylampetamine, the drug known as "ice".

But when he and Ms Hogden walked in the door, Mr Best, 47, allegedly choked McDougall with a thin rope around her neck, saying: "That's for the children."

It is alleged the murder was payback for McDougall telling Mr Best's former partner that he was a drug user, which cost him access to his two children.

Mr Best allegedly held her head down in a rubbish bin filled with water, left the body in an unoccupied unit nearby and later dismembered it with a hacksaw.

"The accused Best disposed of these body parts in different garbage bins in the local area . . . and warned the accused Hogden to be ready as these body parts may show up at the 'tip'," the statement says.

He allegedly dumped the torso in a creekbed last month.

Ms Hogden has been charged with being an accessory to murder.

She claims she had kicked Mr Best in an unsuccessful attempt to stop him killing McDougall, and that he threatened her with a knife hidden inside a walking stick handle when a neighbour knocked on the door to enquire about the commotion in the midst of the alleged killing.
